- Here at Haverford (and also at Bryn Mawr), we use an 8 letter login name
- consisting of the first initial and then 7 letters of the last name,
- overlaps are resolved either by a middle initial or something to that
- effect. An attempt is made either using NIS to keep common
- username/password and any non-NIS machines generally try to use the same
- username as the primary systems.

- PERSONALLY, I don't like this system as much as our old VAX/VMS
- usernames which were first initial underscore full last name. This had
- the added advantage of making lookups by initials much easier. And made
- the usernames more descriptive.
