  14. Here at Haverford (and also at Bryn Mawr), we use an 8 letter login name
  15. consisting of the first initial and then 7 letters of the last name,
  16. overlaps are resolved either by a middle initial or something to that
  17. effect.  An attempt is made either using NIS to keep common
  18. username/password and any non-NIS machines generally try to use the same
  19. username as the primary systems.

  21. PERSONALLY, I don't like this system as much as our old VAX/VMS
  22. usernames which were first initial underscore full last name.  This had
  23. the added advantage of making lookups by initials much easier. And made
  24. the usernames more descriptive.
