- I am looking for information regarding the construction of an index
- using latex. I have read about the subject in Lamport's user's guide
- and I understand the parts about generating the *.idx file and
- generating the index at the end of my file. I am looking for a way of
- getting from the .idx file to the sorted list of index \item entries,
- or some other means of automating the process --- there *has* to be a
- better way than doing it by hand, like the book suggests. I have
- found an undocumented executable called texindex; nobody seems to know
- what it is for, and I can't figure out by trial and error what it is
- supposed to do.

- thanks,
