- I tried to send this earlier today -- but lost my connection just as I mailed
- it -- we'll see.
-
- I use TeX on the Mac here at the SSC -- but have opted for OzTeX rather than
- TeXtures or Lightning TeXtures... This allows for using Microsoft Word (or any
- other WP) as editor and then OzTeX (pronounced Aussie? the author is in
- Australia) to TeX the docs.
-
- If you are interested in OzTeX, it's free and can be downloaded from Chicago
- Midway -- I can get the details if you're interested. I keep mine (and all
- those I distribute to other users here) loaded with Plain, PHYZZX and LaTeX,
- plus TeXsis, the macro package we use here as standard. The main difference is
- that you do not store the font files in your system -- they are kept as PK
- files in the OzTeX folder. Keeps the system running cleaner. (It does,
- however, make the OxTeX require 11+ megs.)
-
- As for the SPELLING CHECKER problem, I sat down and ran the manuals for PHYZZX,
- TeXsis and a version of Knuth's TeXbook I pulled off the internet through
- Microsoft word and created a dictionary supplement with the majority of those
- \characters included. Of course, it also includes a swarm of high energy
- physics terms and names of institutions and physicists.
-
- I could RTF this to you if you're interested. It wouldn't be too great a task
- to remove the HEP terms and proper nouns.
-
- I started out on TeXtures, but it tends to collapse under the weight of some of
- our docs -- and OzTeX has not.
-
- But the dictionary sup would work either way.
