- Hi!
-
- I work at a public university - hence almost every big item gets
- purchased thru a competitive bid process.
-
- I recently requested the purchase of a Exabyte 10 stacker with the
- 8500c compression drive from a national company that has
- conciderable experience with this product (so they said). They also
- had a very good price so I was fairly certain they would get the bid.
-
- Anyway they didn't. I talked with the people who got the bid and
- this seemed like the first time they had sold a stacker or the 8500c.
- Many questions I had got answered by "I will have to check on that"
- so I am searching for some info from you knowledgable people.
-
- Here are some of my questions. The stacker will be connected to a Sun
- Sparc 1 running 4.1.2.
-
- Are there any blatant gotcha's in setup or use that can be avoided
- or one should be aware of?
-
- Is the vendor responsible for configuring and aligning the tape
- drive in the stacker or does it come "ready to go"?
-
- Is there a special /dev/rst? for either the stacker or the tape
- compression? Is tape compression automatic? Can it be turned off?
-
- What causes the stacker to move to a different tape?
-
- If there are any firmware upgrades - will I get those from Exabyte
- or will the vendor be responsible for getting me these?
-
- Thanks!!
