  12. I work at a public university - hence almost every big item gets
  13. purchased thru a competitive bid process.

  15. I recently requested the purchase of a Exabyte 10 stacker with the
  16. 8500c compression drive from a national company that has
  17. conciderable experience with this product (so they said). They also
  18. had a very good price so I was fairly certain they would get the bid.

  20. Anyway they didn't. I talked with the people who got the bid and
  21. this seemed like the first time they had sold a stacker or the 8500c.
  22. Many questions I had got answered by "I will have to check on that" 
  23. so I am searching for some info from you knowledgable people.

  25. Here are some of my questions. The stacker will be connected to a Sun
  26. Sparc 1 running 4.1.2.

  28.   Are there any blatant gotcha's in setup or use that can be avoided
  29.   or one should be aware of?
  30.  
  31.   Is the vendor responsible for configuring and aligning the tape
  32.   drive in the stacker or does it come "ready to go"?
  33.  
  34.   Is there a special /dev/rst? for either the stacker or the tape
  35.   compression? Is tape compression automatic? Can it be turned off?
  36.  
  37.   What causes the stacker to move to a different tape?
  38.  
  39.   If there are any firmware upgrades - will I get those from Exabyte 
  40.   or will the vendor be responsible for getting me these?
