- As far as I know, growing dim is normal as the CRT approaches the
- end of its life cycle, due to some physical aging effect.
- For a lot of display units, the brightness may be adjusted,
- increasing the lifetime of the unit.
-
- In case of problems with authorized service, adjustment of the
- SLC (and stand-alone 17SMM1 display units) is straightforward
- for people with some hardware experience.
- The procedure is
-
- 1) Power off (remove cord) and NEVER ON AGAIN during the
- procedure
- 2) Remove 4 screws fastening the back cover. Pull the cover
- backwards.
- 3) Remove all screws on the inner top metal grid. Flip back
- edge (slowly and carefully) upwards until the potmeter R158 on
- the main board can be reached by a screwdriver
- 4) Adjust the potmeter (slowly and carefully) fully clockwise
- 5) Remount parts by reversing steps 1)-3)
- 6) Turn the machine/monitor on and readjust brightness using
- external adjustment wheel
-
- Hope this helps
