  10. Maybe I am just too dense to see the obvious, but how can I have a Motif
  11. application come up with a 24-bit shell? I need a 24-bit DrawingArea, and
  12. I can't use a GLX widget because that would be nonportable.

  14. Trying to fiddle with the shell XmNvisual is either ignored or terminates
  15. the application. Replacing XtAppInitialize() with an explicit Xt incantation
  16. and supplying appropriate arguments to XtAppCreateShell() doesn't help
  17. either. I always get "Visual: 0x25 (8 bit PseudoColor)" (says xwininfo).
