- Hi Folks,
- We're considering the purchase of a Tektronix Phaser IIsd Printer
- from SGI. I've been trying to communicate with my salesperson to find out
- the configuration of the printer as sold by SGI, but he has left me
- confused and wondering. I was hoping someone who has bought one of these
- printers (or perhaps an SGI engineer) might be able to answer a few brief
- questions on the IIsd as (re)-sold by SGI:
-
- 1) Are the AppleTalk and serial ports available on the printer, or
- are they disabled in some way.
-
- 2) Does the printer come with the ethernet port option installed?
-
- 3) I was told by Tektronix that the Ethernet port option works
- though the parallel port (and is hence bound by parallel port speeds), is
- this the case?
-
- 4) If 2 && 3, can a person with a reasonable amount of technical
- knowhow back out of the ethernet option (to reactivate the parallel port).
-
- 4) The SGI salesperson mentioned that there are "drivers" for this
- printer. My understanding was that this was a Postscript printer. Is the
- salesperson referring to kernel level drivers of some sort, or setup, color
- control software and the like?
-
- In summary, we would like to use the lpd software to run the
- printer, as we do our other Postscript printers, via the serial or parallel
- ports - can we do this with the Phaser IIsd as it is shipped from SGI?
- (we would be connecting this printer to a 4D/35)
-
- Thanks for any help or comments.
