- - Now what did I screw up?
- - Kinda embarassing to have it running so slow. Also I got the following

- I would also zoom in onto those ksh processes, which should not use anywhere
- near two minutes of CP time (other than to allocate all that memory :-)
-
- lisa is obviously using the system console and even that ksh seems overblown.
- Where does sbernst log in from ? And what is using 92% of the machine in
- system time ? It cannot really be paging, since that is paced by the disk response speed, not the CP time available for it, so you would see some 15%
- system time and 60% idle time.
-
- We sometimes have situations like that, usually it is a terminal that has
- disappeared from the network, and the application ignores that fact and keeps
- reading and acting on end-of-files. Ksh, csh, sh, vi, emacs, all of them are
- vulnerable to that. However, IRIX has usually be fairly undisturbed by these
- louses, we see them more often on AIX. And it also seems impossible to create
- them under controlled conditions, though users never have difficulties to
- encounter them :-(.
-
- - P.S. The cute "R4000" medalion that comes with the upgrade kit is
- - very niffty...I put it on the lower right front cooling vents
- - like the directions said...kinda' reminds me of the grill medalions
- - on our old (1982) Mercedes TD300 diesel wagon :-)
-
- "Tacky" is what I told our sales people here. But think of the
- possibilities: Rallye strips, decals, duotone paint schemes, ...
