- Here is a fragment of a Comp.sys.{handhelds,palmtops} FAQ that I've
- been working on when I really should be working on the HP-95LX FAQ :-).
-
- Q: Are foo cards compatible with bar computer?
- A:
- machine description name
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Atari Portfolio card edge proprietary (Mitsubishi?)
- Casio BOSS proprietary
- HP-48SX single sided card edge proprietary (Epson?)
- HP-95LX 68 dual pin socket PCMCIA 1.0, Type II
- Psion Series 3 proprietary
- Sharp PC-3x00 68 pin dual row socket PCMCIA 1.0
- Sharp Wizard single row pin socket proprietary
- Zeos 68 dual pin socket PCMCIA 1.0
- Smith-Corona single sided card edge sort of compatible with HP-48SX
-
- Q: What's PCMCIA?
- A: Personal Computer Memory Card International Association.
- The organization has produced two standards for cards, PCMCIA 1.0 and
- PCMCIA 2.0. Version 1.0 is only for SRAM and ROM cards of up to 64MB.
- Version 2.0 extends the standard to include I/O devices such as modems,
- network adapters, hard disk drives, and other devices. The cards have
- the same long dimensions as the standard credit cards modulo corner
- rounding. The are several standard thickneses, which are refered to as
- card types. See csd4.csd.uwm.edu:/pub/Palmtop/pcmcia.specifications
- for details.
-
- Q: What's the best organizer/palmtop?
- A: Previous discussions on this topic from comp.sys.handhelds and
- comp.sys.pamtops have been archived and are available via anonymous ftp
- at csd4.csd.uwm.edu:/pub/Palmtop/*.news. There is no one best machine,
- each has its own trade-offs of size, computing power, software, and
- other features. A list of some machines is available via anonymous ftp
- from the csd4 archive site in the pcmcia.machines.* files.
