- I've been using PCRoute as a localtalk to ethernet IP router for several
- years. PCRoute runs on a minimally configured PC with various network
- cards. It was written at Northwestern U. as public domain software but
- it has gone commercial in the recent version. However, it's still free
- for universities. It's available for ftp from: ftp.acns.nwu.edu
-
- My present PCRouter configuration is:
- 8MHz XT, 640k, one 360k floppy, no monitor
- one WD8003 ethernet card for the Novell PC/Mac thinnet
- one WD8003 ethernet card for the TCP/IP thicknet
- one WD? starlan card
- one Apple PC card for the localtalk net
-
- It has run fine for 3 years with only two problems. One, it doesn't
- like TFTP packets. Two, MacTCP BOOTP packets are a problem because
- Apple decided to set the hop count to 3 (go figure), so I modified the
- PCRoute source to forward a higher count (easy).
