  30. I've been using PCRoute as a localtalk to ethernet IP router for several
  31. years.  PCRoute runs on a minimally configured PC with various network
  32. cards.  It was written at Northwestern U. as public domain software but
  33. it has gone commercial in the recent version.  However, it's still free
  34. for universities.  It's available for ftp from:  ftp.acns.nwu.edu

  36. My present PCRouter configuration is:
  37. 8MHz XT, 640k, one 360k floppy, no monitor
  38. one WD8003 ethernet card for the Novell PC/Mac thinnet
  39. one WD8003 ethernet card for the TCP/IP thicknet
  40. one WD? starlan card
  41. one Apple PC card for the localtalk net

  43. It has run fine for 3 years with only two problems.  One, it doesn't
  44. like TFTP packets.  Two, MacTCP BOOTP packets are a problem because
  45. Apple decided to set the hop count to 3 (go figure), so I modified the
  46. PCRoute source to forward a higher count (easy).
