- We are trying to add an ethernet segment to an existing NetWare 3.11 network.
- Currently, the setup is this:
-
- Gateway 2000 486DX2/50E (EISA machine) as the server
- IBM Token-Ring Network 16/4 Adapter for the Token Ring segment
-
- This setup works just fine. The problem is that when we install an SMC
- Ethernet Elite 16 Combo Adapter for the ethernet segment, and bind IPX to
- both of them, the following error message comes up on the server console:
-
- Token-Ring Adapter 0 Shared RAM Parity ERROR: D8000
-
- This is in spite of the fact that the only part of the SMC board that might
- conflict with the D8000 address would be a boot ROM, and this particular
- board doesn't have one. Further, in the SMC setup we have explicitly set
- boot ROM size and base address to Disabled.
-
- We have tried this with a fairly exhaustive combination of different port
- assignments, IRQs, RAM addresses, etc. Is there a solution we are
- overlooking? Is there any way to readily change the shared RAM address that
- the IBM adapter uses to something other than D8000? Changing its ROM address
- is _easy_; there are switches for that. But the manual does not seem to
- provide us with any way to change the shared RAM address.
-
- If anyone out there has tried and succeeded in getting these two adapters to
- coexist, any help provided would be greatly appreciated.
-
-
- Thanks in advance,
-
