- Hi,
-
- Thanks for the version information this time. That really helps.
-
- The easiest way to change your volume icon is to use the GET INFO feature (avail
- able in System 7). Your sequence of events follows:
-
- 1. From the DOS client, flag the volume in question as NORMAL by
- using FILER to remove the directory's attributes. Then at the DOS
- prompt, use the FLAGDIR command to verify the directory is flagged
- as NORMAL.
- 2. Login to the server in question from your Macintosh as SUPERVISOR
- 3. Highlight the server's icon
- 4. Select GET INFO from the FILE pull-down menu
- 5. Construct, or isolate an item with the desired icon and GET INFO
- on this object (A folder, or application will do fine).
- 6. Cut the icon from the GET INFO window of the desired item and paste
- it over the icon shown in the server's GET INFO window.
-
- The server's icon should now be changed and there is only one step left.
- Give the rest of the users access to the file called ICON which is located
- in the root of the SYS volume. To do this, just add the group EVERYONE as a
- TRUSTEE (Read, File Scan) to this file. That should do it for you. Realize
- that if you do not perform this last step, all users (except SUPERVISOR) will
- see a generic icon on the desktop. Also, if you do not perform the first step,
- you will not be able to paste a new icon into the server's GET INFO window, so
- that step is important too.
-
- To be safe, make a copy of the original server icon and paste it into the
- GET INFO window of a generic folder so that folder has the NetWare server icon.
- Keep this folder in a safe place so that if you want to go back to using this
- icon view, you can do so with little hassle.
-
- I hope this information is clear enough. And thanks again for the more complete
- problem description this time. It helps much and is greatly appreciated...;-)
-
- Think Peace...
