  14. We have Netware 3.11 running IPX for several DOS workstations on an ethernet
  15. spine (via NE2000), and a localtalk spine supporting several Macintoshes.
  16. This is done with Netware for Macintosh v3.011 and a Dayna DL2000 card.

  18. I have added WorkPlace for DOS to our DOS machines, and installed the IP
  19. NLM in our server, and can now run telnet sessions to other hosts on a
  20. third network (running on a Dowty PC 0115 card).  In other words, our server
  21. is acting as an IP bridge...

  23. So far so good, so I then purchased WorkPlace for Macintosh, hoping that I
  24. would be able to do the same from the Macs... sigh... I cannot seem to bind
  25. IP to the DL2000 board.

  27. It seems very difficult to get Dayna data here in the UK (contact addresses
  28. welcomed!) so:

  30. 1) Am I using the current DL2000 driver? (V3.14)
  31.  
  32. 2) When I try to load a second copy of the DL2000 driver NLM for IP use
  33.    (the way I do for the NE2000, say), I get error messages.  It won't
  34.    reload with the same port address/interrupt values.

  36. 3) If I ignore this, and try to bind IP anyway (in addition to the Appletalk
  37.    protocol already in use) I get a LOCALTALK NOT RECOGNISED message.

  39. 4) Then I get a FATAL ERROR: NO PROTOCOL ID FOR IP ON THAT MEDIA. on
  40.    reading the Supervisor's Guide to TCP/IP Transport, I found that I
  41.    needed to PROTOCOL REGISTER.  Without proper manuals, I just invented
  42.    a couple of ID numbers for IP and ARP (999 and 9999!) and at least
  43.    didnt get the FATAL ERROR.  However, I couldnt get the card to
  44.    do the routing business (couldnt even ping its address from my DOS
  45.    machines).  And TCPCON seemed to give the NE2000 statistics if I
  46.    enquired about the DL2000 board.  And then the board stopped
  47.    working with APPLETALK, and our Macs all crashed.  And how we all
  48.    laughed...

  50. 5) Can I do this anyway?  If not, why not?  What do I offer our
  51.    Mac users?
