- According to some mail I received from someone who works at Apple (I'm
- not giving his name since I don't know if he wants me to) the above
- error message is from PBGetCatInfo and indicates that something is wrong
- with
- some directory structure. He suggested running a cleanup utility to fix.
-
- I tried FirstAid which said everything was all right. I tried Norton
- utilities 2.0 booted from my emergency disk and it crashed after saying
- not enough memory (presumably because of some bad disk structure). I
- then booted with another quadra-bootable floppy and ran the Norton
- utilities on my "bad disk" . This found a number of errors which it
- corrected including one (I don't remember the message) that sounded
- liek a bad directory structure. Since then I have had no printing
- problems. I don't know what caused my bad directory structure and I
- still have another problem with mouse freezing that gets unfreed
- after a while so I need to reinstall lots of software because something
- probably was also damaged.
-
- I wonder why Norton utilities when booted from its bootable disk failed
- but the other version worked fine?
-
- Anyway - kudos to Norton and to the Apple person who responded to a
- email from an Apple Developer Program member colleague of mine.
