  12. I have a problem. I don't want MPW. I have Think C and Alpha, which do 
  13. everything I would want to do with MPW -- *except* run MPW tools. There 
  14. are several ports of GNU utilities available only as MPW tools. I would 
  15. love to be able to use these. I would also like to use DirectTeX, which 
  16. exists only as a set of MPW tools.

  18. Here are my questions:

  20. 1. What would be the cheapest way for a student like myself to obtain 
  21. just the MPW Shell? I would be satisfied if I could just send Apple 
  22. Events to the MPW Shell from Alpha to use the various tools. (I should 
  23. point out that I've only used old versions of the MPW Shell. Does the 
  24. current version support Apple Events?)

  26. 2. Would it be feasible to write a program which runs MPW tools? I would 
  27. think that there would be a wide audience for such a program. What 
  28. exactly does the MPW shell provide for tools? Input/output and 
  29. environment variables? Where is this documented?
