- I'm having trouble quoting but this is in responce to the person
- who wants to have the free exchange of software and scientific discoveries.
-
- Basically, what you propose goes against the main structure of a capitalist country and would result in major bankrupcies and much dreaded job
- layoffs. If a person spends 6 months to numerous years to create a piece
- of software, at many pints in that time, overcomming various hardships,
- (lack of support from family ie. I'm sure there are some freelance software
- publishers like me out there whose parents or wives/husbands think hacking
- in the basement is not a real job) and even financial hardships...(s)he deserves
- some form of compensation for that labour of love. You might want to read
- Chapter 8 of "Balance of Power, International politcs as the Ultimate
- Global Game by Chris Crawford...Then you might know why software publishers
- deserve the money they ask for and why piracy is so low a crime...

- PS: You might also want to read the whole book. BTW, does anyone know of
- other books of programmers rise to fame and all they went through to
- create a piece of software....I find these books very inspiring..
