- |Port of gcc to A/UX does not indicate that the situation is so
- |"vehement". You should not expect any support from FSF and you should
- |not bother them with bug reports but this is not so much different
- |then on Atari.
-
- Right. The FSF, with their boycott, is merely NOT providing any support
- for Apple-based machines. It does not mean we can't port it; in fact, if
- you really disagree with FSF the best thing you can do is port more of
- their software. There is certainly nothing illegal about it, and if the
- FSF dared think of punishing a user for porting to macs, they would
- instantly become hypocrites.
-
- When I ported bison and flex, bison had some stupid code constructs that
- I complained about in gnu.misc.discuss. This led to a brief email dis-
- cussion with Richard Stallman, and he essentially wrote to me (in more
- polite words) "If you have changes, we'll take them. If they are for
- the mac, forget it. Bug fixes are always welcome." Bug reports here
- would mean platform-independent bugs (algorithmic bugs) and not problems
- found when trying to compile the thing under THINK C.
-
- One more thing to everybody who has followed up in this entire thread.
- If you haven't read the files associated with the GNU project, please
- get them and read them. Two of the files are COPYING (the copyleft)
- and the GNU Manifesto(named MANIFESTO, I believe). These files come
- with every software distribution and I think are available via anon ftp
- from prep.ai.mit.edu (or gnu.ai.mit.edu). Before posting next time,
- please take time to read through these files and any others you find
- that I've left out.
