- Well, for instance, I'm using a Jasmine 100Meg DirectDrive. It happens
- that the software supplied with it works fine with system 7 and the drive
- sets its ID via hardware switch settings anyway. But if the drive were
- dependent on the software to set its ID, and the software then turned out
- to be incompatible with later versions of the system software, as has
- happened to some drives, the value of the drive would be seriously
- compromised. Seems like the straightforward switch settings approach is
- much more reasonable.
