- Theoretically, drawing fewer pixels would help, since the object is to
- avoid keeping pixels turned on.
-
- Practically, as long as your chosen screen saver has some movement, even
- if it's slow, will tend to prolong the life of the phosphors (which are
- the chemicals on the inside of the screen which glow). I suspect you are
- being over-conservative about this, though. My monitor, which is
- essentially the same as yours, has been in almost constant (and I mean
- CONSTANT) usage for four years, and I can't see any burn-in on the
- screen. Yes, I do use screen-savers, but I don't pay any attention to
- what they do, just whether I like the way they look, or whether they
- cause a lot of hard drive access (which I try to avoid only because it's
- keeps me awake when I fall asleep near the computer). Chances are that
- the monitor will practically outlive its usefulness, anyway. By the time
- you "wear out" that monitor, it will likely cost pocket change to
- replace. In other words, it'll take years and years.
-
- I suggest that you use a screen saver, but use the one that you think is
- pretty and let that be the only criterion.
