  16. I have one suggestion to both the sumex and umich archive maintainers:

  18. If you ever modify the directory hierarchy, consider classifying strictly
  19. by *purpose*, not by *form*. This means *no* separate directories
  20. for desk accessories, control panels, extensions etc. It also means that
  21. many items currently found in the HyperCard directory(ies) would be more
  22. appropriate somewhere else.

  24. I maintain a local server at our site and use the following hierarchy,
  25. which might serve as an example:

  27. basic:
  28.   System Software Installation, Virus Protection, Documentation
  29.  
  30. hardware related:
  31.   CPU/RAM, Monitor, Keyboard/Mouse, Battery/Clock, Sound I/O, Diskette,
  32.   Hard Disk, Printer, Connections, Other Hardware
  33.  
  34. operating system service related:
  35.   Data, Processes, Communications, User Interface, Fonts, System Folder,
  36.   Special Tools, Other System Functions
  37.  
  38. application related:
  39.   Text, Image, Numbers, Sound, Animation, Music, Data Base, Organization,
  40.   Programming, HyperCard, Science, Entertainment, Other Applications
  41.  
  42. Only a few of the categories are still subdivided.
