  12. The main reason to purchase the kit is to obtain the extra
  13. stacks that come with the newer version.  If you really intend
  14. to play seriously with scripting, the reference manual is
  15. really nice to have as a reference manual!  (This is true for
  16. those types who actually do read the manuals; I frequently get
  17. a lot of help from books, especially when there aren't people
  18. around.)

  20. Buy Goodman's book "The Complete HyperCard 2.0 Handbook".  It
  21. worth it's weight in half-dollars! ISBN0-553-34893-0 c1990.
  22. Even though it's two years old, its got good stuff.

  24. Get the stacks from your friend.  They will need to be
  25. converted.  Do this by getting HyperCard 2.0 or 2.1 loaded from
  26. the sources you mentioned.  Then, pull down the file menu, and
  27. select "Convert a stack" (This command only appears on stacks
  28. that are earlier than 2.0 and show a lock at the right of the
  29. menu bar at the top of the screen.  HOWEVER, once it is
  30. converted to 2.0 or better, it cannot be reconverted down to
  31. 1.2 so only do this on a copy, unless you are positive that you
  32. will not need the orginal).  One reason to go for these stacks
  33. is for the clip art that can be copied and pasted into your own
  34. work.

  36. The functional stacks like the Address and Phone Dialer will
  37. work ok, I think, but don't have the improvements that are
  38. offered in the newer ones in the Developers Kit.
