Could some kind soul help me understand the power saving features on PB170,
please?
1. First of all, a fully charged battery (charged overnight) seem to
last only 1:50 hours! Of course I had the processor running at 25MHz and
was preventing it from going to sleep. Isn't the battery supposed to last
for 2:30 hours under this condition, and longer with power saving features
enabled?
2. I tried using SpinD F-Key to turn off my harddisk, but it doesn't
work! I tried it under system 7.0.1 as well as under 7.1, and it didn't make
a difference! Then, I tried using the Portable control panel (System 7.0.1) to turn off the harddisk, and it doesn't work either. Why? Isn't it supposed to
work in a PB170 (original 4/40 configuration)? Is there something wrong with
my machine?
3. Under normal conditions, how long should a fully charged battery
last?
4. I was watching the battery voltage using MyBattery and this is what
I found: it charges using HI charge mode until the voltage reaches somewhere
around 6.7V then switches to LO charge mode. At this point, if I unplug the
charger from the back of the computer and plug it back again after a couple of
seconds, then the battery starts charging in the HI mode!! The battery voltage
reaches and goes beyond 7.2 volts eventually!! Isn't it supposed to go only upto
7.20 voltst?
Anyway, after the voltage goes over 7.00 voltst, if I unplug the
charger from the back of the computer, the voltage drops down to 6.79 volts
almost immediately and MyBattery shows 1:40 hours as the time left on the
battery. Does this sound right? Or, is there something wrong here?
Sorry for this verbose message, but I need some help from the net
