- I have formatted it with FWB Lite 1.1 and SilverLining. Both times I've gotten
- a formatted drive that I can then install a system on and boot from.
- Unfortunately, whenever I boot the machine 7 identical icons representing the
- drive appear -- as if the drive is not 'terminated' to be SCSI ID#0. When I
- open up either SilverLining or FWB they show 7 1.1Gig drives on all SCSI ports
- too. AND if it turn on any of my other SCSI crap the Micropolis is not
- recognized when I boot from a floppy and will not boot itself at all.
-
- Anybody run into this before? How do I tell if my Micropolis is set for SCSI
- ID#0?
-
- I don't understand how you are able to format and install System 7
- if the drive is not already properly terminated and addressed. All
- the same, disconnect all other SCSI devices and see if the multiple
- icons still show. If not, there is an address conflict.
- Micropolis drives are counted among those with the most sensible
- markings on their circuit boards, so finding the address jumpers
- shouldn't be a problem. You may find three jumpers, together,
- marked (between the pins - very small) DA1, DA2 and DA3. It is
- simple binary addressing all three off = "0". All three on + "7".
-
- Silverlining is not compatible with all 3rd party drives. If this
- address bit, doesn't solve the problem, you may need to format with
- Mac-in-Stor, Disk Manager, or Drive 7 to get this thing to work.
-
- Once you are satisfied with the format and the address, if you
- still have trouble, you need to tinker with the terminators on the
- Micropolis. Since it is a "biggie", it must be in an external box.
- Try it as the only device on the external SCSI chain with an
- external terminating resistor (try it with the Micropolis resistor
- packs both on and off).
-
- If all else fails, get in front of the machine and give me a call,
- I'm local and should be able to walk you through this.
