  10. I recently bought a Performa 600CD, which came with 5 meg of memory --
  11. 4 soldered in and 1 meg added so I am told.  I want to add a 4 meg
  12. simm which would give me a total of 9 megs.  Will this work?  In a
  13. MacUser magazine article on memory it says that the performa 600 can
  14. be configured for 4, 5, 8, 12, 20, etc.  If I have five and add four,
  15. doesn't that give me nine?  The question is, must all of the simms be
  16. the same size (with the possible exception of the original four?), or
  17. can a 4 meg simm coexist with the 1 meg already installed?

  19. Also, MacUser claims that I can install memory in my Performa without
  20. voiding the warranty (well, they didn't mention me personally ... :-)?
  21. I mean, is somebody out there ABSOLUTELY sure that I won't void the
  22. warranty?  I can't find any written word from Apple stating the fact,
  23. though to be honest I haven't looked at all the docs I got.  I may be
  24. missing some docs because I took delivery of a demo machine.  Now, I
  25. don't need warnings pertaining to the physical act (ooooohhhh!)  since
  26. I went to school to be a hardware tech on (gasp) IBM equipment back
  27. when an AT was something to brag about (though I gave that up when I
  28. got my CS degree -- I'm much happier now as a programmer, thank you).
  29. I know simms are different (presumably easier than chips), but I am
  30. well aware of static discharge and other hazards of tinkering with the
  31. innards.
