- Well, while the idea hereis correct, I thinkthe motivation is
- a bit off.

- It's not apple is concerned about users complaining about
- differences in drive size. Rather, they are concerned with
- being able to repair the drives.

- Suppose you had an "80 meg drive" that failed. You send it back to
- apple (or your local service agent) and they find the drive is shot, and
- just go ahead and replace it. Now you go to restore your backup (you are
- afterall a wise user who keeps backups) only to find that the
- backed'up contents of your old drive are too big to fit
- on the new drive.

- This is why apple formats all drives in a given range to the
- lowest -common-denominator size for the range.
