- I recently built myself a "Hackintosh" based on a Mac II motherboard.
- Instead of spending the big bucks for those cute (and hard to replace
- lithium batteries), I took a different approach.
-
- First off, cut those lithium batteries off of the motherboard, but leave
- the leads to them soldered in. Use a pliers to straighten them out.
-
- Run over to Radio Smack and pick up a pair of AA battery holders (each
- holds two batteries). These puppies have the same kind of connector
- a square 9V battery has, so also pick up a package of 9V battery
- connectors with the stripped leads on them. When you get home, solder
- the red lead to the + lead on the motherboard, and the black lead to the
- - lead on the motherboard. Do this twice (for each battery). You may
- want to use some extra wire and lengthen the leads on the battery
- connectors. Stick a pair of AA batteries in each holder, and you're
- done. You've now replaced those expensive little buggers with cheaper,
- EASILY replaced AA batteries. They probably won't last as long as the
- lithiums, but you won't have to take your Mac to a dealer to replace
- them. Even Dan Quayle could replace a pair of AA batteries!
-
- Using a hot glue gun, I glued the battery holders to the back of the
- case (inside the case, above the SCSI port). Since I did this 2 months
- ago, I've not had one problem with losing dates or anything of the like.
