  14. I came across stuffit-expander in the sumex archives by accident- my
  15. version of stuffit-lite 3.0 blew up and I needed another copy.  Then
  16. I saw this thing called stuffit-expander which was about 1/6 the size,
  17. and decided to download it.  Imagine my surprise to find I had accidentally
  18. stumbledupon the best downloading utility ever presented to the Internet!

  20. For years I have been using DeHQX and Compact Pro for my downloading needs.
  21. DeHqx is good, but if it hits a bad file it goes a little weird.  CP has
  22. always been my fav because it can dehqx and decompress almost any file,
  23. except stuffit-lite and DiskDoubler.  I have been using that for single-file
  24. downloads, because it is cumbersome with batch jobs.  I hate having to
  25. stare at my computer for an hour while it decompresses file after file.

  27. Well, stuffit-expander is the best of both worlds- it does batches like nothing
  28. else.  You take the binhexed files, and drag and drop onto the icon.  The
  29. program then dehqxes it, and decompresses the files, leaving them in a
  30. folder inside the original folder your downloads were in.  No fuss, no
  31. muss.  It decompresses compact pro and stuffit files with ease- havent tried
  32. others yet, but have a good feeling about them...

  34. So I have dropped up to fifty files, come back in an hour to find them neatly
  35. decompressed and awaiting my perusal!  This is one program I am keeping
  36. and REGISTERING!  Ray Lau and Aladdin have built a truly great program.

  38. One note: There is an interesting bug (?) in the program.  Every once in a while
  39. a few files will be dehqxed but not decompressed.  So I have to go back
  40. and re-drag and drop these.  They always decompress without problem on the
  41. second drop.  Perhaps there is a problem with very large batches?  But the
  42. MOST interesting thing about this bug is that the file which are skipped
  43. are ALWAYS stuffit files!  The cpt files always decompress on the first go...
  44. You make the call.

  46. My advice:  If you ever download anything, get this program.  The first
  47. time you use it you will see what I mean!
