- To keep lab machines up to date, I want a program that:
- Compares the local hard drive to a model on an AppleShare volume and then
- intelligently reconciles (makes the local volume look like the remote volme,
- copying and deleting a minimal number of files).
- Works with System 7.
- Ideally, fits on a 1.4MB boot floppy with System 7 and EtherTalk.
- Under $1200 for 300 nodes.
- Handles as many as 200 files, adding up to 52MB.
- We can give the program 2MB RAM.
-
- Do any of the Powerbook folder-syncing utilities do one-way reconciliations
- like this?
-
- Stuff I've tried:
- Frontier is promising, especially since Runtime is $25/node, but takes too
- much disk space.
- The program VolumeImage seems to be exactly what we need, but v0.64 can't
- handle large downloads under System 7, and the author seems to have lost
- interest in the program in 1989.
- 'Likewise' will not work on our network and isn't intelligent enough.
- NetDistributor Pro is a top-down solution I don't like. I want something the
- user or consultant can run from the local computer.
