- Amy,
-
- I'm not familiar with any other database manager than Panorama by
- ProVue, though I am the only Mac in an IBM shop environment and know that the
- department I am in has tried to find an IBM version of what I do with Panorama
- but hasn't been able to yet, so take what I say with a little salt...
-
- I have written a package for our software library here that tracks the
- inventory and allows you to create new titles, adjust inventory, calculate
- charge backs to the ordering departments, prints a bibliography of what's
- available, prints a 'shorts' report (which manuals have fallen below a reorder
- point), and prints a history report of what has been shipped.
-
- The inventory I have to keep track of contains about 3000+ titles. Panorama
- is fast and has a good, intuitive scripting language. I love Panorama. I can
- do, and have done, just about anything I have needed to do. The program I
- wrote is front-ended by a graphics screen with buttons to do whatever the
- department requires. Runs beautifully ;-) .
-
- And if I can do it, believe me, anybody can do it. So, I wanted to encourage
- you to try it yourself. But if you don't have time or interest to try, you
- could contact ProVue yourself and ask about what they call "Popups", which are
- programs like mine that folks have submitted (I haven't yet, somthing about
- developing items for profit on company time) which ProVue
- markets for them and they might have just what you need. Call them at
- (714) 892-8199. Panorama II (with full programming features) is $239 from
- MacConnection. ProVue also has a non-programming version of Panorama II
- in case you find the perfect PopUp that costs something like $60, if my
- memory hasn't taken a few too many gammas.
-
- Any other questions, I can be reached at (509) 927-5449 6am to 3pm PST.
