- Keyserver from Sassafras Software solves this problem perfectly ...
- from a technical and moral/ethical standpoint. Keyserver will allow you to
- run as many copies as you have licenses for, and it will keep your users
- from walking off with "free" copies for personal use. Sounds great, right?
-
- Unfortunately, *legally* the license agreements from Aldus and other
- companies do not OK installing keyserver-protected applications on
- a server.
-
- You will find language in many licenses (such as those of Aldus)
- that states that the software may not be installed on a server,
- or "networked" (whatever that means!).
-
- There is also usually language which states that you may not modify
- the program, which means that installing keysever protection (or for that
- matter, even installing other resources, like fonts, in the program)
- is a violation of the language of the license agreement.
-
- Summary: Keyserver works great; Aldus' license language stinks.
