- I'm currently in the market for a notebook or a subnotebook.
- In the San Jose Mercury News, Dec. 10,1992, an article mentions
- a new kind of rechargeable battery. It is called a solid-state
- polymer battery. The article states, "Valence's batteries are
- lighter and have better recharging characterisitics than the
- nickel-cadium, or NiCad, battery packs now popular for
- portable elctronic devices, analysts said." It later continues
- to say that "the profit potential is huge: The new battery costs
- about one-tenth as much to make as a comparable NiCad battery but
- sells for 50 percent more." The article also mentions that Motorola Inc.
- just signed $100 million deal with Valence to get the new batteries.
-
- Now if Motorola is willing to fork over that much money, the technololgy
- must be sound. Now my question is, how come I haven't seen any
- notebooks with this new battery? Are any computer companies planning
- to run their systems off these batteries? Since my next notebook
- needs to be powerful, light, and most importantly, have a long battery
- life, I hope somebody has some information that could help.

-
- Thanks.
