- Well, I had to call up Librex to ask them some questions about my machine
- which I purchased last summer, so I took time to ask them what was up.
- Yes, I bought my machine a month before they filed for bankruptcy. :-(
- It's a great machine though (386/SXL,5MB,80MB,faxmodem), and I couldn't
- get all those features as low a price anywhere else. And I figured that
- being owned by Nippon $teel, it wasn't a fly-by-night operation...
- I've had no problems with mine; I've enjoyed my machine. Now I just
- need to get rid of another 20 Meg so I can install LINUX on it. :-)
-
- Anyway, about the phone calls:
-
- Librex's customer information number (800)-248-4880 merely gave me
- another number 1-800-634-6664, which turned out to be the phone number of
- a company named OmniData. OmniData is now the main supplier all Librex
- accessories (battery packs, RAM, internal fax/modem, etc...)
-
- Librex's current tech support line, which I had to call, is
- (714)-580-1913. I spent under thirty seconds on hold, and the person there
- answered all my questions in a prompt, clear manner. I was pretty impressed.
-
- I asked the guy doing tech support what was going to happen to support
- after Librex officially goes under. He said that Nippon Steel was guarantee-
- ing tech support for at least three years. (i.e. The warranty is one year,
- but they will have a tech support and repair facility for at least three more
- years.) Nippon Steel is presently in the process of getting and evaluating
- bids for a third party to do the support, and it currently looks like
- the tech support will go through OmniData, starting some time in the spring.
-
- Anyway, thought some of you fellow Librex owners would like to know what
- was up. Feel free to correct any mis-statements or pass along some more
- news about Librex!
