- My PS/2 has been very ill lately. It hangs about every 10-20 minutes,
- sometimes requiring a cold boot. Sometimes it just hangs "dead", in
- other words, stops cold in its tracks, but other times it gives the
- dreaded "111" error. The screen goes black and the following:
- 111
- ?????
- appears in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Now, I know from
- past experience that this means system board I/O parity error, but I would
- like to know how I can specifically narrow it down. If I bring it to a
- computer repair shop they're going to want to replace the motherboard,
- which is very likely NOT the source of the problem. It is far more likely
- to be either a SIMM or a memory card. But, diagnostics can't seem to find
- the bad chip/card. I thought microchannel was supposed to be good at
- fault detection and isolation. Hmmm.....
- I would really appreciate any feedback. I know I'm going to have to replace
- some hardware, but I don't want some moron in a repair shop replacing
- everything in sight (and charging me thousands of dollars) because he
- doesn't know how to find the problem. Thanks.
