- The problem is that the old drive was so far out of alignment that
- the new drive cannot erase all of the old information before writing
- the new stuff. Therefore, the residual old info at the track
- edges interferes with the new data just written, resulting in the
- "bad media" errors you're seeing.

- The best solution is to use a bulk tape eraser or a large magnet
- to erase the diskettes (randomizing whatever residual magnetic
- information remains). They will in essence become "unformatted"
- diskettes and may once again be formatted by the floppy drive.
