I'm not saying this is the problem, but it reminds me of the time I tried to format double density floopies as High density floppies. Maybe you could get some
life out of these disks as double density (0.8 Meg) floppies. I don't recall
the switch for that. If it works, it'll be like throwing away 35 disks, rather
