- Hi! My father recently bought an old PC and printer for $250 and I
- took it apart to see what we had. I could use some help identifying
- these cards, and an info concerning the motherboard (like suggestions
- on how to improve it) would be most appreciated.
-
- This is an original IBM XT, I believe. There's a little plate on the
- front that says IBM 5160. (Anyone know what that number means?). It
- was surplus when Pan American went bust, so it's got old and new parts
- mixed in together.
-
- Motherboard is labeled "64-256 KB System Board" and has 4 banks of 9
- memory chips (TI 4164 - 20NL). There is a coprocessor slot for an
- 8087, anyone know where I can get one cheap? I saw one for $89, but
- that seems pretty pricy considering how out of date this chip is!
-
- Card 1: is labeled Color Graphics, which I guess is a giveaway as to
- what it is. It has a composite video (RCA) jack and a DB-9. The card
- is labeled IBM 1981 8440C NM. I assume this is a CGA card. How do I
- find out how much memory it has? Or did CGAs have any memory on board?
-
-
- Card 2: Is labeled Quadram Quadcard, with a copywrite notice 1984.
- There's a bank of chips which I assume are memory (the chips are OKI
- M3764A-15, 16 pins, in a 6 x 9 array). There's a male DB-25 connector
- on the back. What can be connected to this? There's also an empty
- socket on board which takes a 16 pin chip. The socket is labeled
- "printer", there's also some jumpers and a bank of dip switches. Can
- anyone tell me what this card is?
-
- Card 3: Is labeled "Everex Systems Inc EV231C PWA-00219-00" It has a
- females DB-25 and a female DB-9. I have no idea what this card is
- either, except that it's where the printer is plugged in. I was hoping
- the db-9 was a serial port, but when I pluged a modem in there I got a
- steady tone from the modem, not at all usual. So what could this card
- be?
-
- Card 4: is a floppy drive controller card, not labeled in any way I
- could see. But it has a 37 pin female DB type connector. Any idea what
- that could be for?
-
- That's it, I guess. if anyone has any old documentation for any of
- these cards, I'd be willing to pay for a copy. If anyone has any
- suggestions for how to enhance it, I'd be grateful, and any technical
- tips or notes on any of the components would be most helpful too.
- Thanks in advance.
