- This is a subject which has been debated for a long time. No one
- seems to be able to prove which is really better, although I think
- most will agree that 10 times a day is probably not good for your
- system. As long as the muffin fan is working properly, and the inside
- of the system is fairly clean, heat should not be a problem. Also
- the power that a system such as yours uses is negligible. I would
- leave it on during the day when you would be using it quite often,
- and then turn it off at night, if it will not be used for several
- hours straight. You might also want to power the monitor off if the
- system will be unattended for any length of time, since there have
- been fires caused by monitors shorting.

- When you get a hard disk, the system will use somewhat more power,
- but it should still be well less than 100 watts. The problem with
- power cycles and a hard disk is that the heads land each time the
- disk is stopped. Today's hard disks are very durable compared to
- those of a few years ago, but the head landing is wear and tear.
