- My dream machine is the Epson Progression since rumors say that it is the
- fastest machine for running the NeXTSTEP operating system for the 486
- computers. It uses the Wingine chip from Chips & Technologies that allows the
- CPU to address video memory directly. Display PostScript seems to work faster
- with video cards that allow direct access to video RAM, so the Wingine is
- faster than VESA local bus. I will also be able to run DOS/Windows besides
- NeXTSTEP '486. I wonder if there are any graphics cards that plug into VESA
- local bus and allowthe CPU direct access to video RAM.
-
- Of course I want a 17" color display, 32MB RAM and a 550MB hard disk.
- I haven't checked if the Epson Progression is upgradable to the P24T.
-
- There's an article in Byte Magazine on the Epson Progression.
