- Due to various reasons I sometimes find the need to low-level format
- hard disks. In the old days of MFM, ESDI, etc. that's no big deal but
- we all know that 'Thou shalt not low-level format an IDE drive'.
-
- However, I've also discovered that it is possible to format certain
- types of drives, either with standard software or special format programs
- available from the manufacturer. I'd like to compile a list of these
- drives and their formatability. Please email to me. I'll post a summary.
-
- I'll start with the following.
-
- Drive Format program
- -------------- -----------------------------
- Seagate 3144A Speedstor, Disk Manager
- Maxtor LXT-xxxA MFORMAT2 - from Maxtor BBS
- Maxtor 7213A cannot be low-level formatted
