- VESA is short for Video Electronics Standards Association. Created in 1988
- through the efforts of NEC to develop standards for initially hardware
- problems; (timing differences and off-center images).
-
- Eventually, VESA set software standards for 800x600 and 1024x768 video
- resolutions.
-
- Among their accomplishments(?) is the VESA Local Bus (VL Bus) standard.
- Unfortunately, this standard was not approved until June of 1992. As a
- result, there are a number of motherboards destined for the "orphan"
- market; in particular those chosing the OPTi design (proposed) and the
- other by Intel, termed Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI), unless
- they come in line with the VL Bus standard (a VERY real possibility).
-
- They have also developed a standard called the VESA Feature Connector.
-
-
- Hope this helps...
