- HELP!! I need some ideas on this one....
-
- I just purchased a new Western Digital 212Meg (Caviar series) harddrive,
- and I'm having problems with it and stacker. I have used stacker (V2.0)
- to make a 100Meg partition and a 70Meg partition, no problems on the
- install. I was installed Windows and some "space hungry" Windows
- applications...still no problem. The error occurs when I run the
- Stac 'scheck' utility, which I have in the autoexec.bat file to make
- sure everything is kosher on my stacker drives...no better way to be
- checking for lost clusters, and that stacker still has ITS allocations
- correct.
-
- Well, about half way through the 'scheck' routine, the drive makes a
- loud "click" and I get 'unable to read drive' errors. If I wait for
- about 10 to 15 seconds, the drive will make a whirling noise and then
- a low level chatter...very, very similiar to when it is first powered
- up. I also get this problem when I run the 'sdefrag' utility or even
- when I run Norton DiskDoctor on the stacker drive. Finally, it occurs
- on BOTH stacker partitions of the drive, but never once on the non-stacked
- portion of the drive. (oh, it is an IDE drive, and I never had a problem
- with stacker on my old 40Meg Western Digital)
-
- Does anyone out there have an idea as to WHAT is going on? Better yet,
- how about WHAT would make the drive POWER down?
-
- Any help would save my sanity....and what's left of my hair!
-
- Thanks.
-
- Mike
