  13. HELP!!  I need some ideas on this one....

  15. I just purchased a new Western Digital 212Meg (Caviar series) harddrive,
  16. and I'm having problems with it and stacker.  I have used stacker (V2.0)
  17. to make a 100Meg partition and a 70Meg partition, no problems on the 
  18. install.  I was installed Windows and some "space hungry" Windows 
  19. applications...still no problem.  The error occurs when I run the
  20. Stac 'scheck' utility, which I have in the autoexec.bat file to make
  21. sure everything is kosher on my stacker drives...no better way to be
  22. checking for lost clusters, and that stacker still has ITS allocations 
  23. correct.

  25. Well, about half way through the 'scheck' routine, the drive makes a 
  26. loud "click" and I get 'unable to read drive' errors.  If I wait for
  27. about 10 to 15 seconds, the drive will make a whirling noise and then
  28. a low level chatter...very, very similiar to when it is first powered
  29. up.  I also get this problem when I run the 'sdefrag' utility or even
  30. when I run Norton DiskDoctor on the stacker drive.  Finally, it occurs
  31. on BOTH stacker partitions of the drive, but never once on the non-stacked
  32. portion of the drive.  (oh, it is an IDE drive, and I never had a problem
  33. with stacker on my old 40Meg Western Digital)

  35. Does anyone out there have an idea as to WHAT is going on?  Better yet, 
  36. how about WHAT would make the drive POWER down?

  38. Any help would save my sanity....and what's left of my hair!
