- I have a new 486 DX-66 and have found that when trying to install software
- from either floppy drive, I often ran into problems. It seemed that
- even though I had "Inserted disk #2 in drive B:", the installation program
- still detected disk 1. To try to isolate the problem, I booted from a
- "command.com" only floppy disk. Typing DIR gave me the expected list of
- files on drive A:, namely command.com. However, putting a different floppy
- into drive A: and doing a DIR revealed that the drive was not updated
- (refreshed?); i.e. I still get only command.com - it hasn't realized that
- I've switched floppies. I tried this same procedure on my 486-33 and got
- the expected results i.e. it gave me the correct directory of each diskette.
- My thought is that booting from a floppy like this eliminates a
- problem with config.sys or autoexec.bat.. Also I don't see any connection
- to the fact that it is a 486-66. Has anyone any experience with such a
- problem?
- Thanks
