-
- Having spent the holidays working two jobs, I will finally be
- able to put my tired--though certainly dependable--8086 (no,
- that's NOT a typo) out to pasture.
-
- I'm ordering a Gateway 25mhz 486sx, w/ 4mb memory, 170 mb Caviar
- hard drive, IDE local bus hard drive controller, SVGA w/ 1 mb and
- a Western Digital graphics accelerator chip, 128-key programmable
- keyboard, mouse, DOS 5.0, Windows 3.1, Microsoft Works, and a set
- of utilities. I can't afford my monitor, but my Princeton ultrasync
- has been behaving itself lately.
-
- Total price, including shipping: $1206.
-
- I called a lot of different places, but the only places that could
- beat that price were outfits I know nothing about, or know too much
- about (i.e., Fast Micro). One of my best friends recently got the
- same system (but with the crystalscan 15" monitor, damn him), and
- vouches for the quality of the machine.
-
- I am one happy camper.
