- Well, I have finally finished Gobliiins thanks to all who gave me a
- hand with the 5th screen and now feel fully qualified to inflict my
- opinion of it upon all of you.
-
- This is the sort of game that makes we wish I had three arms so that I
- could give it 3 thumbs down. The game is *NOT* a very fun or
- satisfying game to play. I really feel cheated. There was NO music
- anywhere, or maybe there is and I just can't get it because I've got a
- SoundBlaster and not a MIDI system. The puzzles are very inane. They
- are only puzzles because logical thinking does not produce results.
- You simply perform an action, watch the results, and hope to learn
- something about it. And some of the puzzles are simply a case of
- finding a couple of pixels somewhere that don't quite belong and
- performing an action on them, either picking up a mosty obscured item
- or performing magic on whatever is blocking it.
-
- The game seems to be more strongly centered around failure than
- success. There was more thought put into failing to do something than
- succeeding at doing something. And if you fail it is quite obvious as
- you lose energy and those pesky little sh*ts really get on your case
- about it. But if you do something right then you're lucky to see
- anything that indicates that doing something as stupid as you have
- just done is actually the right thing. Sometimes the gobliiins will
- do a back-flip, but not always. And the end screen (ONE flippin'
- screen, minimal animations, no music) is really a drag because I don't
- consider it enough of a reward for pushing myself to complete it.
-
- Sound. There are very few sound effects in the game even though they
- are used over and over again for different effects. And I cannot
- stand games that mix mediums. I spent a lot of money on my
- SoundBlaster card and I want SoundBlaster sound. I don't want anything
- coming out over the PC speaker. Especially if I'm wearing headphones
- so that my girlfriend can study in quiet!
-
- One other thing that puzzled me, that I think indicates that this game
- went out with minimal playability-testing was that the gobliiins were
- refered to throughout the game as goblins, gnomes, and elves. C'mon
- guys, pick a species and stick with it!
-
- Basically my rating is that I won't be recommending it to anyone and
- I'm quite certain that I won't be getting Gobliiins 2. The only
- reason I kept forcing myself through it was that I don't like admitting
- defeat, but I still think I lost anyways.
-
-
- Now that I've said my piece, I guess it is time for people to give
- some good points about the game. I'm sure that there are some
- somewhere, I just haven't found any.
