- The save file seems to be encrypted in some fashion. Even a very small
- change in the game will result in a completely different saved game
- file.

- Try playing Burgandy. He starts off in a better location than Albion,
- and his relations are slightly better with the other would be kings.
- Also there is a nice lake nearby which adds a nice defensive boundary.
-
- It is important to get off to a good start. You don't want to start
- off directly in the corner. It is better to start out a ways and
- actually ignore the territories in the corner for a while (unless they
- have gold). For example:
-
- A B C D|
- E F G H|
- I J K L|
- M N O P|
- -------
-
- Assuming A-P represent territories, it would be best to start around
- F. Then try and get F,G,H,J,N, or if possible A,B,C,D,E,I,M. Once you
- make a ring around the corner and start fortifying those positions,
- you can go back and capture the corner territories (K,L,O,P).
-
- Gold is the most important resource in the game. It is important to
- capture as many gold producing territories as possible, building
- castles on them, and then mining the stuff. Having lots of gold also
- allows you to bribe other the princes to keep them from attacking you.
- Also, gold counts a lot towards your score, so stockpiling gold is one
- way to win, even if you don't have a lot of territory (unfortunately
- you are limited to 99 gold).
-
- If you limit your battles with others as much as possible and
- concentrate on collecting gold and building strong castles, what will
- usually happen is that you can amass over 8,000 points, ask to be
- declared king, and then fend off a few attacks (with your maxed out
- army), and shortly there after be declared king.
-
- I found it very hard to conduct a military-conquest type strategy
- because of the brain-damaged way the game handles armies, so I
- switched to a more defensive posture, letting the other princes fight
- it out while I stockpiled gold and built big castles.
