  10. I,I've also had this problem with "Invalid Card Data" appearing
  11. but only when the card is totally empty, like when you install
  12. it for the first time.

  14. I've found there are two simple solutions to this problem:
  15. 1) As mentioned above, just MERGE the offending Bank and FREE
  16.    it without doing anything else.
  17. 2) Alternatively, just store anything on the card.
  18. Both of these should prevent the "Invalid.." error occurring
  19. when you switch the '48 on.

  21. Taking solution 1);  If you type:  X PVARS  {where X is port#}
  22.                      _before_ merging the card, (ie, after
  23.                      getting the "ICD" error)
  24.                      you'll get:
  25.                      { }
  26.                      131076   <-- this is max capacity of card.
  27.                      Then _after_ merging _and_ freeing, 
  28.                      X PVARS gives:
  29.                      { }

  31.                      ie, exactly the same, as you might expect,
  32. however you'll no longer get the "ICD" error after switching on;
  33. so what's happened? Nothing appears to have been stored on the
  34. card as it's personal MEM count is the same. So, I'm of the
  35. opinion that some kind of card formatting procedure is carried
  36. out by the '48 whenever there is "intimate" contact between the
  37. calc and a ram card, ie. the transimssion of data to a card or 
  38. the merging of the card can be considered "intimate" but merely
  39. having it installed (unmerged) is not sufficiant for "formatting".
  40. So do ram cards have some kind of root directory, which is
  41. separate from the "accessable" memory of the card and which the
  42. '48 "formats" ??

  45. [ Incidently, my TDS 512k arrived without the bank switching
  46. software etc. installed on it contrary to the manual, so I
  47. had to download the software from pc disk, but I've had no
  48. problems with it]
