- I,I've also had this problem with "Invalid Card Data" appearing
- but only when the card is totally empty, like when you install
- it for the first time.
-
- I've found there are two simple solutions to this problem:
- 1) As mentioned above, just MERGE the offending Bank and FREE
- it without doing anything else.
- 2) Alternatively, just store anything on the card.
- Both of these should prevent the "Invalid.." error occurring
- when you switch the '48 on.
-
- Taking solution 1); If you type: X PVARS {where X is port#}
- _before_ merging the card, (ie, after
- getting the "ICD" error)
- you'll get:
- { }
- 131076 <-- this is max capacity of card.
- Then _after_ merging _and_ freeing,
- X PVARS gives:
- { }
- 131076
- ie, exactly the same, as you might expect,
- however you'll no longer get the "ICD" error after switching on;
- so what's happened? Nothing appears to have been stored on the
- card as it's personal MEM count is the same. So, I'm of the
- opinion that some kind of card formatting procedure is carried
- out by the '48 whenever there is "intimate" contact between the
- calc and a ram card, ie. the transimssion of data to a card or
- the merging of the card can be considered "intimate" but merely
- having it installed (unmerged) is not sufficiant for "formatting".
- So do ram cards have some kind of root directory, which is
- separate from the "accessable" memory of the card and which the
- '48 "formats" ??

- [ Incidently, my TDS 512k arrived without the bank switching
- software etc. installed on it contrary to the manual, so I
- had to download the software from pc disk, but I've had no
- problems with it]
