- With more and more people using and switching to the 700 series systems,
- does anybody know anything about HP's future plans for the 300 series?
-
- Last November, our sales rep was in here talking about the new 700i
- and 700rt boxes, and generally trying to nudge us towards moving from
- the 300 to the 700. (Something we eventually want to do, but the
- timing is uncertain.) One thing that got said in that meeting was a
- very clear statement that as of January '94, the 300 series would no
- longer be available for purchase. Needless to say, that caught our
- attention, and we've been putting some serious energy into gearing up
- for the switch in our product.
-
- Now today we were told that the 300 series will *not* be discontinued,
- this coming from the same sales rep. We have a meeting scheduled with
- her on Friday, so I hope to find out more about what exactly is going
- on at that time.
-
- Does anybody have any solid information about HP's plans? How much
- longer will the 300 series be available? What is the expected price
- change as demand for the unit goes down? (Up, I'm sure, but how much
- and how soon?) Quite honestly, from a technical standpoint, I'd
- *love* to switch to the 700 as soon as possible. From a business
- standpoint, however, there are some serious hurdles to be faced,
- including available time for such a project. I'd like to know as much
- as possible about our options. Any help you can provide would be most
- appreciated.
