- What are you using to check swap usage? Just wondering.

- If you have 8.07 available, you might try running the /etc/swapinfo
- program with the -t option (for a totals line), and note the "hold"
- line. (I think you could ftp it from an 8.07 system and it would run OK
- on 8.05.) The "hold" line represents swap space not allocated on any
- particular swap area (device or file system) nor dedicated to any
- specific process, but nonetheless reserved for existing processes. It
- can be significant.

- Yes, reserving all swap that a process might ever need is a conservative
- approach... This has been discussed before. I don't know what changes
- if any are in the works.
