- Yes. But it depends on how you want to use LVM. The only reason
- LVM is part of the install process is to allow the root disk to be a logical
- volume. If you have a system with root, swap, etc on partitions but want
- to make you /users directory a logical volume then you only need to load
- the LVM fileset. You can then have partitions on you existing disk, but
- use LVM with new disks. The LVM commands in /etc (pvcreate, vgcreate,
- lvcreate) or /usr/bin/sam can do the job of adding the new disk and creating
- filesystems or raw data areas on that disk.
-
- If you want LVM on your root disks also, you have two choices. The easiest
- way to do this is use the /etc/lvmmigrate command and then scratch install
- again. The alternative is to use a scratch disk and create LVM on that
- disk, make it a boot disk, and boot from that disk. It is a bit complicated,
- but can be done. The System Administration Tasks manual for S800 discusses
- the procedure for doing this.
-
- No matter your situation, the key point is the LVM takes the entire disk.
- You can have systems that have both LVM and regular partitioned filesystem,
- but the partitioned filesystems must be on separate disk from the LVM disks.
-
- Hope this helps.
