  12. Yes, HP-UX 9.0 should solve this problem.

  14. Logical Volume Manager (LVM) is an option at install time.  With LVM,
  15. root, swap, dump, and any other filesystem can be made any size as
  16. long as it is on a MByte boundary.  (Okay, I believe there are limitations
  17. on the low end of swap and root, ie, I think root must be at least
  18. 50MB and swap must be at least 16...)

  20. As a matter of fact, with LVM, we recommend that you make / (root) as small
  21. as comfortable (the default is 104 MB I believe).   This is because /usr,
  22. /tmp, etc (all filesystems except root) can be extended.

  24. LVM is the direction we're taking to solve the partition problem...   
  25.  
  26. Note, however, the LVM is currently only available on HP-UX 9.0 and is
  27. only available on the S800.   In the future, you'll see LVM on the S700
  28. also.

  30. Hope this provides the functionality you are looking for.  I too have been
  31. bitten by the limits of hard partitioning.
